The four-span Portola Avenue Bridge utilized pre-cast I-girders on a CIDH pile foundation and was constructed in a sensitive habitat over the Whitewater Wash through two rainy seasons. BergCM identified significant savings for this $11 million project with the recommendation to include the Verizon utility lines in the bridge sidewalk rather than beneath the bridge deck. Tom also facilitated resolution when an undocumented communication line in the channel bottom required mitigation. The team-maintained traffic flow during construction so that commuters on this major arterial roadway leading into La Quinta experienced minimal inconvenience. Crane safety was an essential feature of the work.
